Stranded cancer Patients in Lockdown (2022)

According to the 2019 National Medical Service and Quality Safety Report, Shanghai had the highest number of non-local patients seeking medical treatment in China. But when the city went into lockdown, thousands of cancer patients who had traveled there for life-saving care found themselves trapped—confined to hotel rooms or overcrowded shared apartments, unable to reach hospitals as public transportation ground to a halt.

Some never made it to treatment. Others, after testing positive for COVID-19, were sent to makeshift quarantine centers. When their isolation ended, they were met with another cruel reality: residential communities refused to let them back in. With nowhere to go, they were forced to sleep on the streets.

This film was made during the lockdown, through video interviews conducted by journalists who themselves were sealed inside their homes.
